On April 8th 2026, Pakistan stepped in the war as a neutral country to negotiate with both sides. Both sides eventually broke the agreement until another agreement was made on June 17th. Iran is slowly opening the Strait of Hormuz, but is not fully open yet which is still affecting the global economy.
In January 2026, Donald trump got the largest buildup of militaryy personnel since the 20030 invasion of Iraq(A very historical event as well). In February, war broke out again after the US/Israel airstrikes killed Iranian officials and their supreme leader Ali Khameni. This attack by the US and Israel happened while a nuclear peace agreement was being made so Iran fired back. Iran attacked Israel, US-bases, and US alliances Arab countries. After a quick conflict with other Middle Eastern countries, Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz. This is a sea that connects parts of the Middle East with the rest of the world and is responsible for carrying a lot of the global oil. This closure disrupted the global economy and increased the US’ inflation.
Israel and Iran have had a tense relationship for decades. Iran has funded groups like Hamas, which Israel and the US consider terrorist organizations. When Israel found out Iran was close to building a nuclear weapon, they decided to act first. Over 200 airstrikes hit Iran’s nuclear facilities and military bases, dropping more than 330 bombs. The US supported the attack, sending extra bombs to Israel and moving warships to the Middle East.
Iran fired back with nightly missile attacks on Tel Aviv. Israel’s Iron Dome defense system shot most of them down, but one got through and hit a hospital in Beersheba. On June 21st, Trump ordered Operation Midnight Hammer and the US bombed three Iranian nuclear sites. Both sides then signed a ceasefire, which has been broken a few times but is mostly holding.
