Near the Galápagos Islands, which is right off of South America below Mexico, a new type of octopus was discovered. Although technically first seen in 2015, only today in 2026 was this blue octopus Microeledone galapagensis official named and researched. This octopus can fit in the size of your hand and is a deep blue color that lives almost 6,000 feet under water.
